First Sunday (not church :)
Front Porch Sunday might just be the best happy accident I’ve run into in years. It felt like tripping over a pot of gold—except instead of coins, it was filled with street tacos, live music, art, and the friendliest bunch of humans (and dogs) you’ve ever met. From the second I arrived, my senses were hit with delicious smells, good vibes, and the kind of buzz that tells you something magical is about to happen.
This wasn’t just an event—it was a full-blown, joyful, multicultural block party. I mean seriously, where else can you buy handmade jewelry, vegan cupcakes, a vintage lava lamp, and get your palm read all before lunch? Vendors were out in full force, selling everything from A to Z—plus a few things I’m pretty sure were from another dimension. The creativity was off the charts, and the energy. Pure electric happiness.
The people? Oh man. Everyone was so friendly it felt like stepping into a sitcom where the whole cast is rooting for you. Vendors chatted like old pals, volunteers smiled like it was their birthday, and even the dogs seemed unusually polite. There was laughter everywhere—overheard jokes, kids running around, and spontaneous dance moves that definitely weren’t rehearsed (but absolutely should’ve been).
Now, as a photographer, I usually feel like a quiet observer. But at Front Porch Sunday? I felt like part of the show. People welcomed the camera, struck poses, waved, and just radiated joy. It wasn’t awkward—it was awesome. I got to snap those real, candid moments that remind me why I fell in love with photography in the first place. It was less like “working” and more like being part of a community art piece.
And here’s the thing: I had so much fun, I don’t just want to go again—I want in! Next time, I’d love to be there as a vendor. Set up a table, share my work, meet more of these amazing folks, and trade stories (and maybe snacks).
If I could ask one teeny favor, it would be this: can we please make Front Porch Sunday more than once a month? Like, every week? Bi-weekly? Heck, give me a “Front Porch Friday” and I’m there. My camera is charged, my creative soul is buzzing, and yes—I’ve already picked out my vendor apron.
More Sundays like this, please. The world could use a little more joy on the regular—and a lot more cookie vendors.
